A very good afternoon, Compañera. Good afternoon today, May 18th, 131 Years after the birth of the Hero, although that Hero of Ours, so magnificent, that Hero of Ours risen from the Blood and Nerve of the Nicaraguan Race, I say so proudly, that Hero of Ours is born every day, for his Legacy is alive, his Heritage is one that continues on, inspired precisely by his Heroism and his Great Dignity.
That is the Legacy of Sandino, General of Free Men and Women, of National Dignity, National Decorum, Unlimited Courage, that is the Legacy our People carry forward.
When we say, They Could Not Prevail, Nor Will They, we are talking about Sandino. When we say, this People is made of Vigor and Glory and is made for Freedom, that is the legacy of Sandino.
When we say, Here we live making our way, as a deeply Spiritual and Christian People, along Routes of Peace and the Right to Well-being, along the Route of National Sovereignty, we are living out the Legacy of our General of Free Men and Women, which is born every day in every inch of our Nicaragua, and in our Hearts. Because we are the heart of Nicaragua.
And I want to read a note that was sent to me today by someone from one of the Churches and who, he says, greets this birthday as a momentous date, the Birthday of the General of Free Men and Women.
He says "I wish to raise a few words born from the deep patriotic feeling awakened in the Nicaraguan soul by the memory of that man of simple appearance, but Indomitable Spirit; humble in origin, but immense in the face of history.
Sandino was not just a combatant. He was a Spiritual Sentinel of National Sovereignty, a man who turned the mountains of Las Segovias into living altars of resistance, where the Invincible Character of a People that never accepted bowing before foreign Powers was sown forever. His Life, Sandino's Life, seems to have been written with volcanic ink and peasant prayer, because there coexisted in him the firmness of oak and the sensitivity of a son deeply in love with Nicaragua.
Even today, when the wind crosses the roads of Niquinohomo and the bells greet the dawn over our Land, it seems we hear the echo of that General who faced injustice with serene courage and defended the colors of this Patriotic Nation with honor.
Sandino understood that Nicaragua is not only a Territory; it is Memory, Identity, Culture; it is Life, Faith and Hope transmitted from generation to generation.
I'm not selling out. I don’t surrender. I want a free Nation or Death, Sandino said. That is why it moves us so much to see the Youth, the Families and our whole people singing songs, raising banners, flowers, expressions of all our Cultures, in his honor. Because Sandino stopped belonging only to the history books and became the permanent Conscience of the Nicaraguan people. He is present in the dignified brow of the Peasants, in the dreams of our Young People and in the determination of those who love this Land with depth and respect. With respect!
There are men and women whose passage ends with time, there are Beings whose passage ends with time; but there are others who manage to stay dwelling forever in the Heart of their People. That is Sandino, his thought continues to be a torch in the midst of difficulties and his example reminds us that true greatness is born when a person gives their Life to their People, to Service, to Principles, to their Nation.
On this 131st Anniversary of his Birth, the Legacy of Sandino, our General, continues to live on in the consciousness of a People that does neither bends, nor renounces its Identity. That we neither sell out, nor surrender, that Spirit of Firmness and deep Love for our Nicaragua continues to pulsate in our Young People, in our Families, and in those who, leading our Nation, Go Onward with a sense of belonging and patriotic commitment.
Because Sandino does not belong only to the Past; he lives in every Heart that defends Peace, Self-Determination and the Right to make our own way, the Right of Nicaragua to make its way with its own Voice and its own History.
That Peace today is visible in the faces of Children, in Mothers full of Hope, and in Families that see paths of attention and care opening up for their little ones.
Today, the Inauguration of the Pediatric Hospital "Coro de Ángeles" in Estelí is more than a material work; it is a Human, Spiritual, deeply Spiritual, Sign of Love and Commitment to Life. It is that Spirit of Service, of Dedication, of Love, for which Sandino offered his Existence.
How many Children will be embraced by Hope within those walls; how many Families will raise Prayers of Gratitude to see their children cared for with Dignity and Tenderness. Because wherever a Child is protected, cared for and embraced with Affection and Hope, the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ resound: Let the Children come to me, do not prevent them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to those like them.”
What a beautiful message! It really makes touches us, because we see how deeply the Historical Sense, the Sense of the Future, of Sandino as the Leader and as the Father of this Revolution of Love and Hope, this Christian, Socialist and Solidarity inspired Revolution is understood.
One gets excited, one is moved when one sees how the many Works of Progress are being delivered, by the Heroic Youth of All Times, to that Youth that is Going Onward, Going Onward out of Love for Nicaragua knowing we are a People of Struggle out of Love, of Combat out of Love, of Light and Illumination, of True Truths.
A People that neither sells out, nor surrenders, a People full of that enlightened Love Christ left us and which Sandino knew how to interpret perfectly, when he offered himself, when he offered to make his way through Nicaragua, with Nicaragua, out of his deep, and I say the word again, Sense of National Dignity which he knew how to revive, because that Sense is in us.
William Walker was defeated and expelled from Nicaragua...! Andrés Castro, the Native Indian Archers, this is a Combative People, a People of Certainties also, because we fight inspired by the indispensable Battles of Christianity, Rights for Everyone, Love between Everyone, and for the Sake of Everyone.
In these years of his Transcendence to Another Plane of Life, Sandino Lives and the Struggles Continue... Of course the struggles continue!
We are in a difficult, complex, complicated, aggressive, unpredictable world; perhaps that is what affects Human Beings the most. Not that life is predictable, but when the uncertainty sown by the enemies of Life is transferred to the whole world. And that is their intention. That is terrorism, it is terrorism to fill the world with uncertainty, with voids; to pretend to leave the World and the Peoples of the World without Hope.
But no, there is a Sandino, a Zeledón, an Andrés; there are the Native Indian Archers, the Original Communities in their Resistance in this Blessed Nicaragua, there are Rigoberto, Carlos, Tomás, to tell us: We Neither Sell Out, Nor Do We Surrender! We know how to make our way out of Love, towards Love. And here we are illuminated by a Sun that does not set!
We see the faces of Youth, full of Strength, full of Courage, Honorable and Victorious, because we know that we are Going Onward. This Patriotic Nation of Ours, This Youth of Ours, this People of Ours, deserves Glory and Victories!
And here we are also lighting up the Trees of Life which will be illuminated today Monday in Muy Muy, honoring our General.
Also, Compañeras and Compañeros, today we inaugurated the Hospital "Choir of Angels"... Sandino Lives On and the Struggles Continue! The Struggles for Well-being, for Health, the Struggles from the Peace that we protect and guard.
The Truth, the Real Truth is that anyone who opposes Peace, anyone who tries to destroy Peace, cannot be regarded as a Christian, cannot have a Good Heart. And when we see those people who from the other latitudes where they subsist, it seems to me they are lazy, messaging away, from their positions, if really one can call them such, as Priests, messaging so as to attack their People. How shameful!
However, we are sure that one day, the Catholic Church will recognize that a member of their Church cannot participate in politics in such a vulgar, offensive and sinful way. Because we know and believe that those who decide to give their Life supposedly to God, really must respect that Oath to God; not supposedly swear to God only so as to serve the Devil... To God! To God who is Love and whom we love above all things.
That is why, on this Sublime Day of so much Inspiration and so much Example, this Day of Births and Rebirths, we commit ourselves to Go Onward. Always Further On, like the General of Free Men and Women! Always Further On! Because it is always possible to Go Further On, conserving the Well-being and Rights of our People. All of Us Together!
All of us who love Nicaragua, together, working for the Victories of Peace, the Victories of our Rights, the Victories of our Paths of Goodness, the Victories of Hope, of the Undefeated Strength of a People that Neither Sells Out, Nor Surrenders, Ever!
We have the daily reports, we will share them tomorrow, because we want to focus on this Day of National Pride, of Homage and Imitation, just as I remember, when I was little... the Imitation of Christ? Yes! Imitation of Christ Jesus, imitation of all those Universal Heroes, who have known how to interpret the Legacy and the Mandate of Christ Jesus: To love God above all things, and to love each other, and to be Beings of Good, Beings of Light, Beings of Peace. Never Beings of War.
Never beings of Destruction. Never People who promote Terrorism. Never Beings who have a curse inside them, that curse of doing harm. That cannot be! Ever!
We are Beings of Light and proudly live the Mandates, the Legacy of Christ Jesus and of our Heroes, who, inspired by those Mandates of Christ Jesus, knew how to battle on, with Hope and for Hope, to Live in Light, in Truths and in Full Existence for the entire Human Community, and for our People, of course.
Warm embraces and until later, when we will be with our Comandante Daniel, paying tribute to that Brave General and to all the Brave Nicaraguans who have known how to be themselves in a Free Patriotic Nation, who have known how to be of Love and Strength, who have known how to be enlightened and crossed by the Great Spirits, who resonate here, who live here, who inspire us here every day. That's why we say, the Great Spirits enlighten us.
What a blessing the Nicaraguan people have, the Grace of God! What A Privilege! The Privilege that God gives us to be Great, to be Strong, to be Brave, to be Courageous and Valiant, to be Heroic, and Always Further On!
