MESSAGE BY THE GOVERNMENT OF NICARAGUA AT THE 27TH CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES
TO THE UNITED NATIONS FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE (COP 27). HIGH-LEVEL SEGMENT

Mr. President of the COP 27,
Dear Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Heads of Delegation and Delegates.
Good afternoon,
1. Our delegation has the honor to convey the fraternal greetings of the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Comandante Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Comrade Vice President Rosario Murillo Zambrana, to all the Peoples and Governments represented here, in particular the Government and People of Egypt, for their hospitality and organization of such an important event.
2. Climate change is an issue that concerns the whole world, which is why we are meeting. Developed countries generate emissions of around 50 billion tons of carbon dioxide, which are already causing concentrations of 420 parts per million and anomalies of temperatures of 1.1 degrees Celsius.
3. Nicaragua is the country that has the highest frequency of hydro meteorological phenomena, which have economic consequences that exceed our financial capacity to restore the damage and the economy, as was the case with the most recent Hurricane Julia, in October 2022, which left us with economic losses of $367 million.
Mr. President,
To face the effects of climate change, it is urgent that developed countries reduce their emissions by 50% by 2030, with a financial mobilization of US$100 billion per year; and setting Losses and Damages at the same level as adaptation and mitigation.
It is urgent to strengthen Climate Justice with an indispensable policy of reparations in this COP-27, which must be based on the principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capacities.

Nicaragua is convinced that respect, understanding and solidarity, without exclusions, will prevail in this COP-27, for a better world for our current and future generations.
