Reaffirmation of adherence to the One China Principle
Respect for national sovereignty, defense of sovereignty and territorial integrity constitute the fundamental pillars of modern international law and international relations, and are likewise indispensable conditions for maintaining world peace and stability. As an essential part of the achievements of the Second World War and the international order established after the war, the return of Taiwan to China has a clearly defined historical and legal status which admits no distortion or calling into doubt. The One China Principle is a basic principle recognized in international relations and a consensus broadly shared by the international community as confirmed unequivocally by UN General Assembly Resolution 2758.
The Government of Nicaragua reiterates that only one China exists in the world, that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory and that the Government of China is the only legitimate government representing all of China. Nicaragua supports China’s efforts to achieve national reunification, supports its just position in defense of national sovereignty and territorial integrity, opposes any kind of separatist activity intended to lead to “Taiwan’s independence”, rejects all attempts to interfere in China’s internal affairs on the pretext of the Taiwan question and condemns any action aimed at undermining regional peace and stability.
The Government of Nicaragua will continue to adhere to the One China Principle and is disposed to work together with China to safeguard the achievements of the Second World War and promote the evolution of international relations in a more just and equitable direction.
