Beloved Colleagues and Fellow Delegates from all over the World:
Nicaragua’s Delegation, on behalf of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, of Co-Presidents of the Republic, Comandante Daniel Ortega and Compañera Rosario Murillo, from the Land of Sandino, greets Compañero Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, the Communist Party of China and the Fraternal People of this Great Nation.
We thank and acknowledge the Organizers, the National Women's Federation of China and hosts of this important Summit.
Since the re-establishment of Diplomatic Relations with the Sister People's Republic of China, a New Stage of Cooperation and Development has opened up. Together, Nicaragua and China continue to build a Future of Dignity, Prosperity, Peace and Happiness for our Peoples.
It is an honor for the Nicaraguan Delegation to be present at this significant Global Women's Summit. Since that very First Summit in 1995, our voice as Women has become stronger and our Struggle has left an indelible impression on the Policies and Development Models of our Nations.
In Nicaragua, a principle of our Sandinista Popular Revolution is that without Women’s participation, there is no Revolution. Our Prominence is reflected in every Program driving our Development, in free Health and Education, without exclusions; Economic Projects which positively impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of Women, especially in Rural Areas, achieving our Empowerment and our Autonomy.
Under the guidance of Comandante Daniel Ortega and Compañera Rosario Murillo, Nicaragua has been recognized for our Leadership in Gender Equity and Women’s participation in Politics, evidence that the Sandinista Revolution defends, promotes and makes real our Rights as Women.
Our Country has enacted crucial laws to combat violence against Women, our Law 648 guarantees that women occupy positions of high responsibility, now representing 56% of the Government Cabinet and more than 57% of posts filled by Popular Election, this being an obvious reflection of our Democratic Model and of Women’s Participation as Protagonists.
These achievements are being strengthened and advanced despite the imposition of illegal and inhumane Unilateral Coercive Measures, which disproportionately affect Women and Girls in Developing Countries; which negatively impact our rights and our access to essential services.
Nicaragua strongly rejects and condemns these practices, which are contrary to International Law and to Equality.
Beloved Compañeras and Compañeros,
Nicaragua's participation in the "Beijing+30" High-level Meeting highlights an inescapable reality: Although there have indeed been significant advances since the 1995 Report, inequalities, gaps, discrimination and violence against women persist. This Summit therefore is an urgent call to renew commitments and to accelerate global action.
We also express our firm support for the Initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, which highlight the common values of humanity and the exchanges between Peoples at the International Level.
We reaffirm our full support for the One-China Principle, which is a guarantee for Stability and Peace.
I conclude by quoting Nicaragua’s Co-President, Rosario Murillo: "Women are the Energy of the Present, the Force of Victories, and the singular Strength of our Peoples. We are Givers of Life, Givers of Peace, Givers of Love, and for all this we feel proud as We advance in many prominent spaces of Leadership and Power.”
