Address by Daniel
Nicaraguan brothers and sisters, Families of this Land of Honor and Glory, we are of the Race of Diriangén, of the Combatants who confronted and defeated, on several occasions, the onslaughts of the Spanish colonizers.
We are the Life, Light and Blood of the Heroes of San Jacinto, where the first defeat was dealt in these lands, in these regions, to the Yankee expansionists and invasions.
We are the Blood and Soul of General Benjamín Zeledón, who also faced the Yankee troops, who landed after the overthrow of General José Santos Zelaya. Raising the Honor of this Patriotic Nation, the Dignity of the this Patriotic Nation, Zeledón, with a contingent of Patriots, conscious that Dignity and Sovereignty had to be defended, which was being trampled by the Yankee marines who were disembarking in our ports, and whom General Zeledón resisted, he did not surrender.
They had him surrounded there in Coyotepe and offered him freedom, that they were not going to imprison him, but he did not accept. Because they wanted him to give up. And then he wrote in a letter addressed to his Family, to his People, why he could not and should not surrender. And on October 4th he fell in combat, and the Yankee marines believed they owned Nicaragua.
But then Sandino raised the Anti-Imperialist Flag, and combat began again in an unequal war, because the armament of the Yankees was much superior; but the Fighting Spirit, the Honor of the Army In Defense of National Sovereignty was more powerful and our General of Free Men and Women fought that battle.
The commanders of the Yankee troops thought they would be able to crush him and his Defense Army, that they were going to crush him in three or four days, a week, 15 days, but they began to see that time went on and instead the Army of Workers, of Peasants, led by General Sandino, was causing them casualties, then more casualties, and then more casualties, and the planes had to come to carry away the Yankee soldiers who had fallen in combat.
And a year passed and they swore, before the US people, before the International Community, the Yankee troops swore that it would not be long now before the liquidation of the Army In Defense of National Sovereignty.
And then came a second year of fighting, of defeats and ambushes, by the Army of Defense causing more casualties to the Yankee Army every day. So they reinforced the Yankee Army with airplanes, then they reinforced it with artillery, thinking in that way that they would be able to bring General Sandino to his knees.
But the second year passed and the Yankees still continued counting their losses. And the third year came, and the same thing happened. And even the fourth year came, and the fifth year, the sixth year, the seventh year, and they couldn't take it anymore and so all that remained for them was to retreat defeated from Nicaragua.
Today we commemorate the 46th Anniversary of the Founding of our Police, a Police Force that is also a continuation of the Army In Defense of National Sovereignty.
We have the Glory, because it really is a great Blessing, a Glory, that this People, thanks to those Struggles, from Diriangén to the Struggle of the Sandinista Front, has managed to maintain its Dignity and the Principle steadfastly: Here We Neither Sell Out, Nor Surrender! We do not Sell Out, nor do we Surrender!
Today the Police are going to march down this Avenue, the Historic Avenue of Bolívar the Liberator, Hero of Venezuelan, of the Patriotic Nation of Chávez, of the Patriotic Nation of Nicolás, where just as here in Nicaragua we have resisted the attacks of the Imperialist Powers, so too the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has resisted and continues to resist all the attacks, they do not surrender, they do not sell out.
No matter how much military power the Yankees install and have installed surrounding the area of Venezuela, Colombia, the area of the Islands, no one has surrendered there, instead the People, under the leadership of our Brother President Nicolás Maduro, what they have done is organize, organize to defend themselves if they are attacked.
They do not seek, nor have they sought confrontation with the Yankees, it is the Yankees who are confronting all humanity, launching aggression, provoking wars on all sides, and now wanting to turn our Region, sworn to be a Zone of Peace, wanting to turn it into a War Zone.
But we are sure that they will not be able to turn it into a War Zone, because to take on attacking the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is to take on attacking all of Latin America, and we are sure that we are all united there in this Battle, to defend the Sovereignty of Venezuela, which is to defend the Sovereignty of all the Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
And they will not find they have come here for a walk in the park, so the Imperialists are probably thinking very carefully about whether they will move on to a phase of major war, or simply remain watching over seas that do not belong to them. Because they have invaded areas that belong to other countries and where they see a boat, a launch, they bomb it, they smash it to pieces, because they say that drugs are being trafficked there, and what they do is a crime, because they murder people, they murder fishermen, but they present no evidence.
In other words, what should take place is that a suspicious boat is captured and investigated to see if they are carrying drugs, but not simply to kill those who aboard the boats, those who sail on those boats.
And they are affecting fishing, because they are terrifying local fishing folk; because now their boats have become the target of the most powerful army in the world. Imagine that! They should be ashamed of all they are destroying. And it is not by dealing death, it is not by killing that problems are solved.
How many thousands of drug traffickers are there in the United States, well established, at leisure, enjoying themselves; how many drug traffickers are there in the US State institutions. Because there is no other explanation. How is it possible, given that they have an immense, sophisticated military apparatus, that they cannot control the drug traffickers who are selling, distributing the drugs and who then deposit their money in US banks. And they're not going after that money, they don’t go looking for that money. The money simply goes into US banks, the money of those drug traffickers.
But neither can the solution be to start murdering drug users in the United States, because in practice that is what they are doing here, they kill those whom they suspect of dealing drugs. So then they will also end up thinking that killing drug users in the United States will solve the problem. But you don't solve the problem that way.
Among those using drugs there is a good part of US youth, victims of the effects of drugs and the way rifles, guns, pistols, machine guns are sold, which can be bought by any citizen, even young people can buy a gun, they need no further certification, they simply go where businesses sell guns, buy them, and take ownership.
And then, they go with that gun, that pistol, that rifle, they go and murder students in schools, or they murder families, or they murder those whom they think deserve to be murdered, or who should be killed, simply because there a culture of Death prevails there.
The United States is a Country, a Nation which, instead of sowing Peace, sows Hatred. North American Culture, which comes from time when Europeans occupied the territory of its true owners, the tribes, the Original Peoples of the United States and Canada, when they did the same as the Spaniards did, as bad and worse, for they set out to exterminate entire Indigenous Communities, Indigenous Peoples, so as to transfer European Culture to the United States and Canada, imposing it, and reproducing it among their children, in their schools, even the quarrels that they had among themselves.
For then there was a brutal war where on the one hand there were the Europeans, already turned into owners of the North American territory; and there were the Europeans who owned slaves, who defended that Principle and wanted slavery to be established throughout the United States.
So, well, the war started, those from the South were mostly agricultural producers; those in the North had industries installed there, there was indisputably an industrial workforce whose workers were already being treated as workers; but instead the workforce in the South were slaves, and they wanted to extend slavery to the whole United States so there came a confrontation between the South and the North.
And William Walker came from the South, which is why when he made himself President here in Nicaragua the first thing he decreed was slavery, because here slavery had already been abolished following the Independence of Central America, slavery had already been abolished in 1821.
So then there was all the violence, and that culture of violence was then transferred to all these countries. And then, massacres even took place among the self-same US people competing for gold, when they discovered large quantities of gold, there in San Francisco and all over that region.
That is to say, it is a country where there have been sinister movements, such as the Ku Klux Klan; which was a secret cult made up of people from high society, who had their meetings, their rites, covering their face and body in white and then going out to capture black citizens. And the black person they found in the neighborhood, or the black person they found on the street, they captured them, tied them to a pole, whipping them and they ended up burning them. So you see, that is part of the great culture of the United States of America: The Ku Klux Klan.
And the Ku Klux Klan is alive there now, chasing after who? Not only after black people now, because now they are persecuting migrants, migrants who are from these regions, migrants who went to the United States in search of work, because in the US they needed those workers and they still need them.
But there is racial hatred, they have rulers who are racists and those rulers have promoted wars around the world ever since the United States of America existed; they are the ones who have promoted most wars in the world, who have occupied countries, bombing countries, destroying cities, the ones who feel that they own the Planet, simply because they have military power and great wealth.
They feel that they own the planet and that all the citizens of the planet, whether they are black people or not doesn't matter anymore... No! All the citizens of the planet, mestizos, of different races, of multiple colors, they consider them to be their slaves. That is the mentality they have, they feel and act like the owners of the planet and offer bullets, destruction, war, to any country, any government that does not accept all their abuses.
And here, in this country, we have something that is much more valuable than atomic weapons, than sophisticated weapons, than the submarines and aircraft carriers which the Imperialists of the Earth may have; we have something much more powerful which is Dignity, Dignity because we are a People forged out of Dignity, and when we have to face an invader and do not have the weapons that they have, already in the year 1856, in the Battle of San Jacinto, Andrés showed us, there is no need of them, because here is the stone, and with that stone he brought down the Yankee invader.
This Police Force is a Police made of Strength and of Dignity, because they come from the People, and are of the People, they come from humble families, and are there to serve humble Families, to defend the Security of ordinary Families.
So today on this 46th Anniversary once again we congratulate the Brothers and Sisters of our Police, we congratulate the Compañeros and Compañeras who are going to parade today, there are 900 women who are going to parade here among our National Police, and 1,200 men; in other words, a contingent that says a lot about how here Women march alongside Men defending the Security of the People, the Security of all Citizens.
Long live the National Police!
Long live the 46th Anniversary of the National Police!
Sandino Lives On, the Struggle Continues!
A Free Patriotic Nation or Death!
