TO THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS REPUBLIC OF PANAMA
THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA cordially greets the MINISTRY of Foreign Affairs FOREIGN AFFAIRS of the Republic of PANAMA and takes the opportunity to refer to the legal-political situation of Mr. Erasmus Antonio Cerrud Pinzón, with Identity Document of the Republic of Panama No. 8-475-164, who affirms that he is the Secretary of Defense of the National Single Trade Union of Construction Industry and Similar Workers (SUNTRACS).
In this regard, this Ministry communicates that Mr. Erasmus Antonio Cerrud Pinzón has requested asylum at the Embassy of the Republic of Nicaragua in Panama, considering himself pursued for political reasons relating to the exercise of his trade union activity, being in danger of his life, physical integrity and individual freedom.
The State of the Republic of Nicaragua communicates that, in accordance with the 1933 Convention on Political Asylum, ratified by our country, and recognizing that Asylum is an institution of a humanitarian nature and that all persons may be under this protection, regardless of nationality, the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua has decided to grant Asylum to Mr. Erasmo Antonio Cerrud Finch.
In this regard, the Government of Nicaragua requests the Government of the Republic of Panama, to provide assurances for the prompt departure and humanitarian transfer of Asylum beneficiary Erasmo Antonio Cerrud Pinzón towards the Territory of the Republic of Nicaragua.
