NICARAGUA DEMANDS
RESPECT FOR PALESTINE

The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity denounces the atrocities being committed in the Palestinian Territories Occupied by Israel, particularly in Gaza, which has been under a total blockade since March this year without the entry of Humanitarian Aid and under constant indiscriminate bombings against the civilian population, of which seventy percent of the fatal victims have been women and children; more than sixteen thousand children have been killed since October 2023.

Now, the Government of Israel has publicly announced its intention to occupy the Gaza Strip permanently and to expel the Palestinian People numbering more than two million people. Once again, Israel has made public its intention to commit war crimes, genocide and other violations of the peremptory norms of international law. Those States which even so continue to support the commission of these crimes cannot deny their knowledge of the serious illegality of Israel's conduct, nor that it has generated obligations under international law.

Nicaragua calls on all Countries which, in blatant violation of their obligations under international law, continue to support the Government of Israel politically, financially and militarily, to comply with the corresponding norms of international law, including their obligation not to recognize as legitimate the situation created by the illegalities committed by Israel which were confirmed by the International Court of Justice in its Advisory Opinions of 2004 and 2024. Similarly, in its Ordinance of April 30, 2024, the Court considered it particularly important to remind all States of their international obligations regarding the transfer of weapons in an armed conflict, in order to avoid the risk that such weapons will be used to violate the Geneva Conventions and the Genocide Convention.

Words of condemnation alone will not stop genocide, apartheid or war crimes, and therefore Nicaragua also calls on the entire international community to take the corresponding concrete and practical steps in line with what has been ruled by the International Court of Justice and in accordance with the resolutions approved by the UN General Assembly. Nicaragua will continue to take the actions it deems necessary to comply with its international obligations.

The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the rule of law at the International level and to the peaceful settlement of disputes between States.
