COMMUNIQUÉ
IN RELATION TO SICA
Today, a Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Central American Integration System (SICA) was held to take a decision on the List presented by Nicaragua, responsibly and in a timely way, so as to exercise the General Secretariat of SICA, which corresponds by Right and by the System’s own institutional norms, to the People and Government of Nicaragua, without managing to reach consensus due to the arbitrary and baseless positions of some Delegations.
Despite the personal qualities, extensive experience and proven professional capacity of the proposed candidates, once again the delegations of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama and the Dominican Republic, interfering in the internal and sovereign affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua, seek to dictate and impose their own criteria and political interests on sovereign affairs involving a decision that can only be taken by the People and Government of the Republic of Nicaragua.
We denounce that selfish agendas and political interests, alien to the regional interest of following a path of concord and regional unity, continue to influence the decisions of the Governments that have blocked the Republic of Nicaragua’s legitimate right, all for the petty purpose of imposing their political interests.
These actions only promote division among the Peoples and Governments of the region, leading to the accelerated disintegration of this important regional space, an attitude that constitutes a blatant violation of the Tegucigalpa Protocol.
We call on the Governments of the Region to take a responsible position and to act on the basis of Regional Regulations and Presidential Agreements governing the Integration System, but above all to assume an attitude consistent with the interests of our Peoples.
Nicaragua will not give way in its struggle for respect for its Sovereignty and National Dignity.
