Mrs Amy Pope
Director-General
International Organization for Migration (IOM)
Dear Madam Director,
The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua greets you, on occasion of referring to the publication of the “World Migration Report 2024”, prepared by the International Organization for Migration (IOM); which we reject as containing false, malicious and irresponsible information.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) was conceived as an Organization to promote international cooperation and help find practical solutions to migration phenomena, respecting the sovereignty of States, without interference in their internal affairs.
For the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua, this Organization lacks the vision or actions to address seriously the structural causes of Migration, while the use of double standards in its treatment of States, to the detriment of the principle of Sovereign Equality, Nicaragua does not accept and rejects.
For the foregoing reasons, the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua, based on Article 3 of the IOM Constitution, notifies its sovereign and irrevocable decision to withdraw from said Organization, and demands that IOM close its Representation and Offices in Nicaragua immediately.
Greetings,

Valdrack Jaentschke
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Republica of Nicaragua
