US veto in the Security Council
Palestine's Application for Admission to the UN

General Assembly
Mr. President,
1. Nicaragua associates itself with the intervention of Uganda on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement.
2. On March 5th we met in this Assembly to hear the explanation of the United States who voted against a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
3. We are meeting today because the United States once again voted against in the Security Council, this time, on the application of the State of Palestine to be a full member of the UN, thus denying the realization of the State of Palestine.
4. In addition to this veto, the United States recently announced the approval of billions of dollars to continue aggression and genocide against the Palestinian People.
5. The peoples of the world are not silent, they are demonstrating, there are millions of people on the streets, in schools, in universities, even in the United States, protesting, demanding a ceasefire, demanding respect for life, for the inalienable rights of the Palestinians, an end to genocide and to the Israeli occupation of all occupied territories.
6. We reiterate that the Security Council must fulfill its responsibilities conferred on it in the Charter and must do so with urgency and without double standards.
7. The Government and People of Nicaragua reiterates its firm solidarity with the State of Palestine and condemns once again this genocide in Palestine, in violation of the Charter of the United Nations, International Law, International Humanitarian Law and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
Mr. President,
8. The Palestinian People continue to resist with heroism this barbarism, this massacre without precedent or scruples. We are facing a clear demonstration of the attempted extermination of Palestine and its People.
9. The State of Palestine must be recognized as a Full Member of the United Nations to make way for the only just and true solution, the current circumstances confirm this and now more than ever, the urgency of convening an International Conference on Palestine is becoming more evident.
10. We are witnessing that in the world there is a cry in unison, Free Palestine, with the certainty and conviction that the Palestinian People will emerge victorious in their heroic struggle to realize their Free, Sovereign, Independent and Self-determined State of Palestine, in accordance with the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its Capital.
Mr. President,
11. The United States cannot continue to deny the recognition of a State of Palestine in the United Nations, it is unjustifiable and inappropriate, this moral, unethical and inhuman aberration of trying to perpetuate the abuse of the Veto against the just application of the State of Palestine has no place in the aspirations and consensus of more than two thirds of the UN membership that supports and officially recognizes the State of Palestine.
12. We greet and thank the recent announcement of Barbados and Jamaica officially recognizing Palestine as a State, we are now 142 States in recent weeks.
13. In our Latin America and Caribbean, more than 90% of States recognize Palestine and we hope that very soon the 3 States outstanding will announce their recognition of the State of Palestine. Thus our entire region of Latin America and the Caribbean, which is a zone of peace, will have fully recognized the State of Palestine.
14. We welcome the recent announcements by several European States who have declared that in the coming weeks they will officially recognize the State of Palestine. We know that this will contribute to the two-State solution and to peace in the Middle East.
Mr. President,
15. There is a Universal Consensus in support of the Two-State Solution, there is simply no other possible solution, and for this, we all know that the first step is the full recognition of the State of Palestine.
16. The Security Council still remains hostage to the exceptionalist and obstructionist policy of the United States, allowing the genocide and crimes of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian and Arab Territories.
17. If one is really consistent with supporting the existence of two states, even with the best intentions, it is incongruous and contradictory to blindly support one of those States and continue to obstruct the application of Palestine to become a full member in our Community of Nations.
18. It is time for the United States and European countries to reconsider, listen to the voices of all humanity crying out for Peace, Justice, Freedom, and to reflect, to put an end to their unjustifiable policies of denial and exclusion of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian People.
19. These countries bear the historical responsibility to past, present and future generations for the consequences of the suffering of the Palestinian People.
