REMARKS BY NICARAGUA
ON THE REPORT OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
AT THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Mr. President,
1. The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of Nicaragua wishes to note the way in which international bodies and organizations, such as the Human Rights Council, evaluate the application of Human Rights in an unbalanced way between different countries, with notable double standards as regards the barbarities committed by the imperialist and neocolonialist countries.
2. This unequal evaluation lends itself to the manipulation and instrumentalization of Human Rights for other purposes and hegemonic pretensions, based on imperialist economic and political interests, affecting the Dignity and Sovereignty of Peoples seeking to shape their own destiny, free of external interests.
3. The focus of the promotion, protection and development of Human Rights, which this international organization should promote, is to apply and strengthen of those Rights, within the framework of respect for the identity, sovereignty and historical development of each country, without losing sight of the universality of Human Rights, contained in the declarations, resolutions, agreements and mandates adopted, which place special emphasis on the sources from which information is collected for analysis, which must be impartial and objective.

4. This report includes a totally biased resolution on Nicaragua.
5. This resolution, along with the mechanisms unilaterally adopted against Nicaragua, aims to continue deprecating and denigrating our national authorities and institutions, as well as the legal system sustaining the Nicaraguan State, on the basis of false and totally biased information, so as to interfere in our affairs, disrespecting our sovereignty and independence and echoing the interventionist policy towards our People of the United States of North America and some European Countries.
6. We will always reiterate our total rejection of any kind of resolution, which is biased and which ignores the efforts in which, as a Country, we have been engaging, giving continuity to the process of structural changes that guarantee the progressive progress in the enjoyment of and the participation in the Human Rights of the Nicaraguan Nation, as well as the sustainable development of all our territory.
7. We speak with complete authority about the Right to Life, the Right to Health, the Right to Education, the Right to Work, the Right to Drinking Water, Electricity, Housing, Women's Rights, the Rights of Children, Youth, the Elderly, the fight against Extreme Poverty, the eradication of Illiteracy, Citizen Security, Legal Security over Property, the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Afro-descendants, among other Rights, in which we have achieved great progress. Likewise, our Government categorically rejects the unilateral creation and designation of a supposed “Group of Experts on Nicaragua,” which is mentioned in this Report.
9. This Group is nothing more than a screen offering non-existent legality to the reports they prepare on Nicaragua, which disseminate subjective, distorted and false accounts and facts about our reality, acting in accordance with the guidelines of the United States and some European Countries.
Mr. President,
10. Nicaragua has never, much less now, been a threat to any country in the world; we are a peaceful, decent and dignified Country in the International Community, which demands Justice and Equality and that is why we insist on defending the Human Rights of Nicaraguans, to eliminate the sanctions against our People which directly attack the essential Human Rights of Nicaraguans, constituting a true crime against humanity.
11. In any case, these unjust and illegal unilateral coercive measures against our country do not discourage us, nor do they intimidate us and we will continue to make our way firmly in the struggle to achieve the maximum level of effectiveness for our Political, Economic and Social Democracy.
12. We call on that Council, once again, to assume its responsibilities before the history of Humanity, to recognizing and respect the inalienable Right of the World's Peoples to make their own decisions and to live in Peace, with Sovereignty, Respect and Human Consideration.
