Speech at the Reception in Celebration of the 74th Anniversary of the Founding of the People´s Republic of China

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Comrades and Friends,
Today, we are gathered here to celebrate the 74th Anniversary of the founding of the People´s Republic of China. In the past 74 years, China has transformed itself from an impoverished country to a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
It has embarked on the new journey of building a stronger country and rejuvenating the Chinese nation on all fronts through the Chinese path to modernization. These enormous achievements have been made through the hard work of the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, rallied and led by the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Here on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, I wish to pay high tribute to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, to the People´s Liberation Army and Armed Police, and to all the other political parties and personages with no party affiliations in China!
I wish to convey sincere greetings to fellow Chinese in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SARs), in Taiwan and residing abroad! I also wish to express heartfelt thanks to all the countries and international friends who have cared for and supported China´s modernization!

This is the first year for implementing the guiding principles set out at the 20th CPC National Congress. We have coordinated COVID-19 response with economic and social development, taken a balanced approach to development and security, vigorously sustained economic recovery and advanced reform of Party and state institutions in an orderly manner. We have responded effectively to floods in some parts of the country and actively promoted opening-up scientific and technological innovation and green development. We have firmly safeguarded China´s sovereignty, security and development interests. We have ensured that the economy stays on a generally upward trajectory and witnessed solid progress in high-quality development as well as signs of a bumper harvest in food production. We have continued to improve the living standards of the people, and maintained social stability. Chinese athletes have delivered outstanding performances at the Chengdu FISU World University Games and the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
These are indeed hard-won and heartening achievements.

The world today is undergoing accelerated transformation unseen in a century, and the international environment is changing profoundly. We still face many risks and challenges on our way forward.
With a view to advancing high-quality development, we need to accurately and fully apply the new development philosophy in its entirety and move faster toward the new development paradigm. By focusing on enhancing macro regulation, expanding effective domestic demand and energizing market entities, we will continue to strive for better economic performance, enhance internal drivers, and improve people´s anticipation.
We will also earnestly forestall and defuse major risks, and endeavor to fulfil the targets for economic and social development for the year.
To promote high-standard opening up, we will continue to comprehensively deepen reform, steadily expand institutional opening up in rules, regulations, management and standards, advance high quality Belt and Road cooperation, facilitate domestic and international circulations, and enable more resilient and dynamic economic development.
To meet people´s ever-growing needs for a better life, we will further improve public well-being, double down on our efforts to boost employment, resolve pressing difficulties and problems that concern the people most, and do more to help those in difficulty, meet their basic needs. We will consolidate and expand the gains in poverty alleviation, advance rural revitalization across the board, promote common prosperity with solid steps, and steadily increase people´s sense of fulfilment, happiness and security.

We will continue to fully, faithfully and resolutely implement the policy of One Country, Two Systems, and see that Hong Kong and Macao are administered by patriots.
We will continue to support Hong Kong and Macao in growing the economy and improving people´s well-being.
We will support the two SARs in leveraging their uniqueness and strengths, actively participating in the development of the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and maintaining long-term prosperity and stability.
We will adhere to the One-China Principle and the 1992 Consensus, promote peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, and advance integrated development across the Strait, so as to safeguard the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation and improve the wellbeing of compatriots on both sides of the Strait. Complete reunification of our Motherland is the shared aspiration of the people, the trend of the times and a historical inevitably. It will not be held back by any forces.
We will stay committed to peaceful development, continue to pursue a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up, uphold international fairness and justice, and practice true multilateralism. We will promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, build a community with a shared future for mankind, and join hands with people around the world to meet various global challenges and create a better future for humanity.

The future of our new journey is bright, yet the road ahead will not be smooth. Unity is strength. Confidence is more valuable than gold.
We must maintain firm confidence, further lift our spirit, strive in solidarity, keep surmounting challenges and overcoming difficulties, and make steadfast strides toward the great goal of building a strong country and realizing national rejuvenation.
