Seas of people mobilized from Managua to Masaya and in León in support of the Sandinista government.  This weekend we had the opportunity to attend two demonstrations of revolutionary commitment, of organization, of massive support for the Sandinista National Liberation Front.

Saturday's commemoration of the Strategic Retreat from Managua to Masaya, a gigantic 30-kilometer caravan accompanied by thousands and thousands of people on foot, on bikes and motorcycles and in vehicles was so huge that many had to return before getting to Masaya because there was no way to get into the city of flowers since the traffic was totally congested.

On July 7 in Leon we commemorated the 40th anniversary of the seizure of Fort “Acosasco”, one of the last strongholds of the Somoza dictatorship and the action that marked the definitive liberation of the first capital of the Revolution, in the heart of the Subtiava indigenous neighborhood of Leon.

More than 15,000 Leonese marched several kilometers in support of the Sandinista Revolution and swearing that the coup plotters last year "could not, nor will they ever," take away from the people the freedom and peace gained at the cost of so much blood and sacrifice.

And that was in León, because in La Paz Centro there was a great local march in memory of the Heroes and Martyrs of Pancorva where members of the Western Front of the FSLN fought a decisive battle against the Somoza National Guard.

In reality, Sandinism is more united than ever, aware at all levels that the task of defending peace and freedom belongs to all, to all generations and to all regions.

The Sandinista people, and the people of Nicaragua, are vaccinated against the coup.

The right-wing coup-plotters seem determined to ignore their defeat and determined to continue trying to destabilize. They are marching towards total irrelevance and have gained the contempt of the people.

Some social sectors, those who daily consume the right-wing media poison of La Prensa, El Nuevo Diario, Radio Corporación, Confidencial, CNN and the social networks, live in a parallel reality in a sad disconnect from the world that surrounds them.

It is hard for the ego to accept that it opted for a defeated and erroneous option, and that it supported and justified the execution of horrible crimes in the name of their cause.

These sectors will have to reconcile with what they did in order to reconcile with the rest of society. A long and bitter process.

The immense demonstrations this weekend were just the prelude to what is to come on July 19. Whether with a single central act in Managua or with acts in all departments of the country, the demonstration of strength of the Sandinista Popular Revolution and the Sandinista National Liberation Front will be enormous, the largest in history.
