On the official visit to the Russian Federation
of the Minister of Foreign Affairs
of the Republic of Nicaragua D.R. Moncada Colindres

PRESS RELEASE

On July 17-21, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua, Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, will pay an official visit to Russia.

On July 19, he will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss a wide range of bilateral, international and regional issues. Special attention will be paid to the problems of fighting the spread of coronavirus infection. In May and June of this year, the first batches of the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V" were delivered to Nicaragua.

It is significant that the forthcoming visit will take place during the celebration of the 42nd anniversary of the victory of the Sandinista People's Revolution (July 19, 1979), which became a symbol of the struggle for freedom, equality and social justice.

Further strengthening of the strategic partnership with Nicaragua is one of the priorities of Russia's foreign policy in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. Political dialogue between our countries is successfully developing at the highest levels, there is close coordination at a parliamentary level, and the legal treaty base is expanding. The Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation works productively, joint health and space projects are carried out, relations in the sphere of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, in training and professional development of personnel are actively developed.

Our joint work in the global arena is determined by the convergence of positions on major issues on the regional and international agenda, commitment to the strict observance of the norms and principles of international law, especially the UN Charter, and strengthening of the central role of the UN and its Security Council.

Managua traditionally supports Russia's priorities within the UN General Assembly, in particular on the fight against the glorification of Nazism, on confidence-building measures and non-deployment of first weapons in space, on arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, on international information security, on combating cybercrime. We are in agreement over our policies on politically motivated resolutions to do with Crimea, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and Syria.

Russia and Nicaragua are united in the inadmissibility of interference in the internal affairs of sovereign States, the non-recognition of coups d'état as a method of changing power, and the opposition to illegitimate, unprincipled and discriminatory sanctions, including the extraterritorial application of national legislation.

We categorically reject external interference in the internal political affairs of Nicaragua, including attempts to influence electoral processes on the eve of the forthcoming general elections on November 7th this year. Russia stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Nicaragua and resolutely condemns any form of isolationism and pressure on a sovereign State and supports the right of Nicaraguans to determine the fate of their country themselves.
