Donor countries secretly funded the MRS : another look at the CINCO, Oxfam, MAM case

Current moves by donor countries like the US and the European Union governments to cut aid to Nicaragua prompted me to look again at some of the reports on the CINCO-manufactured uproar. This paragraph from a report in La Prensa reminded me of something I hadn't thought important at the time.

"Oxfam es el administrador del Fondo Común de Apoyo a la Sociedad Civil para la Gobernabilidad Democrática en Nicaragua, que reúne aportes de ocho países cooperantes."

People have been distracted by the bogus civil liberties issue - the political nitty gritty is that the Nicaraguan government found OXFAM was passing development money from donor countries to MAM a component group of the MRS political party using CINCO as a bridge.

Bottom line: donor countries were funding the MRS under the table.

Understanding that casts their current trumped-up complaints about non-existent election fraud in a very different light. The US and European governments' political proxies in Nicaragua failed - again - to get traction via the ballot box, so these countries are now applying pressure via development aid blackmail to give the opposition politicians they support in Nicaragua some negotiating leverage with the FSLN government
